The red carpet on Sunday night’s 72nd Golden Globes shone like no other. Women became regal goddesses dressed in metallic embellishment, virgin white and floral prints.
Though I mention it every year, I can safely say the award season is my favourite time of year. When with your girlfriends, you will often joke about how long it takes to get ready for an event; yet we underestimate how many stylists, hairdressers and make up artists are on hand for one of the biggest nights of the year.
Here are my best dressed women of the night and I hope you will agree with me too.
Versace was one of the most called out names on the red carpet, worn by the likes of Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams and Kate Hudson. Cutaway details are not the most comfortable nor natural choice for a red carpet appearance but it was certainly on trend. Kate Hudson’s cut out side panels on her Versace dress was natural and elegant – the less is better. White was certainly on trend as Salma Hayek wore an Alexander McQueen ball gown, tightened at the waist with a belt. Emily Blunt wore a custom-made Michael Kors grecian gown. One of the stars of the night was Golden Globe nominee Rosamund Pike. All eyes were peeled as the new mum revealed all to see in a white classic ethereal chiffon Vera Wang gown. Kate Hudson and Rosamund Pike have my vote for the sexiest mums on the red carpet.
Metallic embellishment was a key staple of the night as Reese Witherspoon, nominee for her role in Wild wore a custom-made figure hugging Calvin Klein dress draped in silver sequins. Up next was Julianne Moore. Her age never fails her style and she was a clear winner in a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci. Julianne’s sequinned dress faded from silver to to black with a cascade of feathers gathered at the bottom for a fishtail look. Kate Beckinsale as per usual wowed in an Elie Saab couture gown with an elaborately embellished bodice and champagne skirt. Lastly Anna Kendrick was one of my surprise best dressed of the night. Mirroring a vision of Cinderella, Anna arrived on the red carpet in a low v-neck cut Monique Lhuillier gown with red sequins detailing the top.
With many more dresses to mention, the above are possibly my favourite of the night. Like many other editors and stylists in the world of fashion, I am now beginning to predict the trends which will grace the red carpet for The Oscars which is to take place February 22nd.
