An Australian Brunch at Farm Girl, Notting Hill

I’m not one to venture in the hidden depths of West London, but Farm Girl on Portobello Road is a gem for a spot of brunch over the weekend. Despite it being a little far to travel from my north London roots,  it is a small and intimate cafe that was inspired by co-owner Rose’s childhood and her rural upbringing in a farm outside of Melbourne. They do say Australian’s know how to brunch and Farm Girl proved the theory. Difficult to book and with queues coming out of the door, it is truly taking Notting Hill by storm and has rightly so, added its name to the book of best brunches to have in London.

It has a laid-back and quirky, vintage style decor which has a ‘villa’ type look to it. Open Tuesdays to Sundays, it has all you could ask for. From brunch to cakes to healthy detox smoothies, it is most certainly a healthy eating cafe that has a menu for all to choose from.

The menu boasts an exotic variety of coffees and one that stood out was the lavender latte, made with lavender water and infused milk. Their coffee is delectable, and to the tongue, it has a flavour you wouldn’t have come across when sipping your regular early morning brew. Of course the popular choice as ever for brunch with the group was avocado toast, with lemon juice, black pepper, coriander and a sprinkling of pomegranate.

You can also add poached eggs, all for the reasonable price of £9. Farm Girl is also famous for its natural and organic ingredients and top of the favourites list are the berry pancakes; made with homemade buckwheat mix, amber maple syrup, fresh berries and coconut shavings. You can also opt for the coconut yoghurt to accompany the dish – which is a delicious bonus!!
