It was that time of the year again when I anxiously waited in front of my laptop, with a large cup of coffee and my notepad as I began to take down notes as drop dead gorgeous creations worn by countless Oscar nominated stars appeared on the red carpet.
The Oscars 2014 took place on 2nd March hosted at The Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles which was broadcasted live across the world as the most exciting and thrilling films were in tight competition with each other to win those beautiful bronze statues.
In a fashion nutshell, The Oscars for me is most certainly my highlight of the year. There is nothing better than staying up late and going twitter crazy as the stars arrive on the red carpet to show off their exquisite choices for fashion. With the midnight blue’s in full sight as well as the nude squad it was of no surprise that the trends for this year’s Oscars were of course plunging necklines, nude pastels and of course the all-important embellishment. With the nudes and embellished dresses on display, I can definitely say that the silver beading was one of the most popular trends with Cate Blanchett one of my best dressed of the year wearing Armani Privé. Others such as Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab, Jessica Biel in Chanel Haute Couture and Julie Delpy in a 1920’s inspired crystal champagne Jenny Packham also arrived on the red carpet. With the arrival of Lupita Nyong’o in her delicate pastel custom made Prada dress, the world was watching in awe of the young actress who won Best Supporting Actress in 12 Years a Slave. With the gorgeous pallid blue with the plunging neckline, the princess style was one of the best dressed for the evening.
Who could forget the unforgettable Dior dress worn by Jennifer Lawrence last year? Well this year was no different, though Jennifer opted for a more simplistic, sophisticated and feminine choice and of course it was Dior. In a tomato red peplum dress, Jennifer was looking radiantly feminine. With the midnight blues on the red carpet both from men and women, it was a sore disappointment with the choices by Amy Adams and Sandra Bullock who both opted with simple navy blue designs. With Amy Adams in Gucci and Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen, I did expect a little more from both considering the sheer elegance both exhibited on the red carpet last year. Without doubt, my favourite dress from Amy Adams was her 2013 silver-blue Oscar de la Renta dress with a beaded bodice and over dramatic tulle-embellished skirt with ruffles and pleats. With absolutely stunning designs parading the red carpet last night, my jaw dropped in envy and with the likes of Lupita, Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett winning their respective Oscars, it was certainly a night to remember.
With many funny and exciting moments shared, this year was without a doubt one of the most competitive Oscars many have seen for a while and quite rightly so!
