Reignite your love for reading in 2016!

We all need a break from time to time; and by that I don’t mean grabbing your caramel macchiato during your lunch hour from work. We have all become a little too fixated with technological advances and guilty as I am, I have a total crush on social media. Social media in all its glory has provided us with an opportunity to upload images in real time, write a status that covers our latest endeavours and use specific tags that can become a viral phenomenon in no time. In all the excitement, we have forgotten to pick up a book and read; no matter what genre, topic or industry you are admire.

I have gone through my entire life pretty much obsessed with print publications; whether it be a fictional, non-fictional book or an endless supply of fashion, beauty and high-luxury magazines.

I find myself not reading enough and I have always begged to question why?

Enjoy reading a book with a cup of coffee this year

We have social media networks that are designed to digitalise our day-to-day activities, make friends using the correct hashtags and more importantly become part of a spider web of networking. So with the likes of The Independent ceasing all print publications for the nearby future, I for one would be gutted to see my favourite magazines enter a digital realm and never look back. I love nothing more than sitting on the sofa with a glass of wine on a Friday night, catching up on Cosmopolitan, Grazia and Look.

So in an effort to ignite an old love of mine, I decided my New Years resolution was to read more – and a pretty wise one to make! Reading is one of the easiest resolutions to accomplish compared to a vow to get into the best shape by going to the gym three times a week (or not in my case).

Reading can be a pleasant experience, and if you love to read, then what’s the harm in picking up some of 2016’s highly anticipated books. And if you’re a nervous wreck to entirely disassociate yourself with social media, then one way to keep it going is to download the Goodreads App. The app has ‘digital shelves’, where you can place the books you’ve read and are reading; not to mention read the latest reviews. So if you love nothing more than spending 40minutes on the tube reading a book, now is your opportunity.
