The Oscars for Fashion has arrived! It is the most anticipated fashion extravaganza of the year and The Metropolitan of Art’s Costume Art Gala paid tribute to America’s couturier Charles James. With the charity’s event theme ‘white tie’, old glamour and sophistication flooded the red carpet with endless celebrity guests. With the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker, The Beckhams and a host of supermodels on the red carpet to name but a few, it was most certainly a night to mark down in the history of fashion.
As Anna Wintour played host for the evening in a delicate patchwork Chanel Couture dress, the quirky and experimental gowns just kept flowing. With the price of a ticket raised from $10,000 to $25,000, it was most certainly a guest list of royalty.
The all famous photograph of the night came as Stella McCartney was pictured with four beautiful women she had dressed for the event. With Reese Witherspoon and Kate Bosworth in hot and pastel pinks, Rihanna wore a crop cut out white collar embellished dress and Cara Delevingne in a sophisticated feminine take on a suit. White was soon repeated by the all star Mr and Mrs Beckham who were matching in white as Victoria wore a plain, yet elegant white gown. Of course, Beyonce and her husband Jay Z were another royal pair to greet the crowd as Beyonce wore a low cut Givenchy beaded couture dress with a matching netted headpiece. The comedy of the night came as Beyonce’s dropped ring was used as another mock proposal by chivalric Jay Z.
With stars rolling in one by one, it was soon noticed which designer had dressed more than one celebrity. The fashion highlight of the night went to miss Sarah Jessica Parker. Only SJP could pull off such a dress, making a grand entrance as expected which was designed by the one and only Oscar De La Renta. As she sauntered up the stairs, the press caught the first glimpse of her black and ivory gown which was ever so suiting to her Carrie Bradshaw days. With diamond embellished gloves, a black grid on the back, it was the noticeable signature by the designer on the back of the dress that made his dress one of the most spoken of the night. Taylor Swift was also seen in a gown by the designer looking absolutely regal in her custom made design which was a perfect shade of dusty pink. The fabulous design was fitting to Taylor’s shape with a back cut into a deep v-neck. The satin gown was intricately designed with feathered detail around the upper bodice which had a long, geisha type train behind her.
Many couples attended the star studded event including Johnny Depp, Colin Firth and John Legend. Though, eyes were peeled on Blake Lively and her man; Ryan Reynolds. The couple looked exquisite with particular emphasis on Blake’s custom made golden Gucci Premiere embellished and sparkly gown. The golden peach dress featured a chiffon trail that delicately flowed from her shoulders down and a fish tail skirt which extenuated her feminine curves.
With so many women, so many dresses, the models had successfully impressed. Suki Waterhouse led the way in a strapless fairytale pastel tulle, designed by Burberry. The waterfall effect dress was surely to have had an effect on the Brit’s American boyfriend Bradley Cooper who was also present, looking handsome as ever in a traditional tuxedo.
It cannot be underestimated how many fabulous best dressed women were present at the Gala. With a theme of white tie, elegance and sophistication ruled the red carpet, making the year another successful in the history of fashion!
